Hollie Greenwood began her studies in the double bass at age 11 in Atlanta, GA after switching from classical violin. She was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and studied with Gloria Jones Allgood of the ASO. Since the start of her bass journey, Hollie has spent her summers at the Interlochen Arts Center, the Brevard Music Festival, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and the National Music Festival.
Hollie received her Bachelor’s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Scott Dixon. During her time at CIM, she founded the CIM Black Student Union and served as President. She is now attending the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music to earn her Master’s degree in Double Bass Performance as a Albert C. Yates Fellow. Hollie studies with Professor Rachel Calin.
Hollie has also completed her Suzuki bass certification with Dr. Kate Jones. She recently served as a faculty member at the Greater Austin Suzuki Institute. She has a passion for helping the young bassist succeed and grow as well as for helping to develop the methodology and pedagogy for young bassists.
Alongside her duties as a performer and teacher, Hollie has also worked behind the scenes in her nearby orchestras. She is now the Learning Programs Coordinator at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
Aside from playing bass, Hollie is a freelance Irish fiddler and fiddle teacher! She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing board games, and getting an iced coffee from different local spots or Dunkin’.
