Wang Meng(王萌) is a Chinese composer based in New York City. Her music draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including ancient Chinese music, folk songs, Eastern philosophy, poetry, Western avant-garde, jazz, rock, and natural sounds.
Meng’s music has been praised for “injecting a fresh dimension to the sonic landscape” (ICareIfYouListen) and for “mingling baroque-tinged phrases with amorphous cosmic rhythms while maintaining the distinction of each in a grippingly harmonious manner” (Schmopera). Her work is noted for being “always interested in something unpredictable” (New York Classical Review) and for featuring “innovative musical language combining Eastern and Western aesthetics” (Xinhua News Agency).
Meng’s work has been performed internationally by many notable orchestras and ensembles, including the Brussels Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Percussion Ensemble, China Youth Symphony, Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Thin Edge New Music Collective, among others. Her music has also been featured at major festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Bowdoin International Music Festival, China Shanghai International Arts Festival, MISA Shanghai Summer Festival, Beijing Modern Music Festival, and so forth.
